Woodstock Curling Club sent three teams to the GNCC Arena Club Championship this past weekend (Thursday June 26 – Sunday June 29) being hosted by the Mount Washington Valley Curling Club in Conway, NH.
The Woodstock Curling Club stole the show by putting both of its entries in the final match of the Grand National Curling Club of America championship at Ham Arena this week, with the quartet of Jay Flanders, Chris Miller, Nate Miller and Paula Flanders taking home the title.
The tournament started on Thursday and saw Woodstock’s Team Flanders and Team Gawler — consisting of Rory Gawler, Matt Geer, Rita Seto and Sarah Parkinson — roll through their groups without a loss. Team Dugdale — consisting of Dave Dugdale, Rich Svec, Todd Allen and Peter Labelle made it to the semi playoffs in the D event but lost to Rutland for final playoff.
Team Flanders topped squads from Cranston, R.I.; Bucks County, Pa.; and the host club, Mount Washington Valley Curling Club, to make the final. Team Gawler’s victims included teams from Atlanta, Long Island, Rutland and Bridgewater, Mass.
Team Flanders edged Team Gawler in the final, 6-4, on Sunday to earn the championship. The tournament featured 25 squads from 14 East Coast states. Congratulations to Team Flanders for bringing home the GNCC trophy!
